Viceroy Palm Springs: destination inspired vignette

My husband and I talk about visitng the Viceroy Palm Springs in California hopefully sooner than later.  Maybe some of you have been there, maybe not.  Given the state of the economy, for us and many others, vacations are the last thing on our minds.  But this has gotten me to think about how to bring these destinations to us since we cannot get to them.  Luckily, creating a Viceroy Palm Springs vignette in a small area of our home was fairly simple given that our decor is primarily black and white.  Out for a walk with my dog this morning, I picked a wildflower that became the yellow featured in the vignette.  Before I show you my simple little creation, allow me to take you on a quick virtual vacation to this stylish hotel:

Okay, so now for my simple, small corner of Viceroy Palm Springs, here's my little vignette:

Distressed Patina Nightstand Revamp

Our vintage carrera marble top nightstands are preparing for a makeover.  But we're struggling to decide what color to finish and distress to use on the wooden base.  Our bedroom is a medium grey right now (soon to be white), so my thoughts for finishing the base of the nightstands are distressed, french grey or distressed white.  Here are the nightstands along with some photos of paint colors and finishes being considered.  We need your help!!

Should we consider a distressed french grey?

Or a distressed white finish?

Please share your opinion and if you have suggestions for another color or finish, please share that too!!
Merci! Alicia

Black and White Decor: Coco & Igor style

I love black and white, have you guessed that yet?  Although black and white are neutral, to me, they make an impact without screaming like many of the vivid hues found in homes today.  Their absence of loudness, for lack of a better word, allow accents items to become the center of attention; it might be a family photo, a brightly colored pillow, or even a pattern.  Have you ever noticed how a pattern maintains it's integrity in black and white?  It still stands out and is the center of attention whereas, a pattern in colors, seems somewhat diluted at times because it's all about the color.  Don't get me wrong, I like a pop of color here and there, but prefer the clean canvas and limited visual clutter that black and white provides.  For you Rolling Stones fans out there, my father's favorite song to sing when my husband and I began decorating our house was, you guessed it, Paint it Black!  I have to laugh every time I hear it play on the radio.

Let's explore the world of black and white decor through photos from the movie Coco & Igor:
